hej, mam mały problem z zadaniem i proszę was o pomoc. potrzebuje odpowiedzi na pytania które podam poniżej. z góry dziękuję :) :
For the hundredth time, Karen wondered whether she'd done the right thing. lt had seemed so straightforward. College was going
to be finishing for the summer. She would be bored out of her mind if she stayed at home with mum and dad out at work all day,
and all her friends off on holiday, or doing summer jobs somewhere. And, very importantly, she needed some cash. She needed books
and also needed to socialise, as she couldn't be expected to stay in while all her mates were off having a good time. So, here she was,
waiting for the interview. The room was big and uncomfortable. Karen shivered, and not because of the temperature.
‘You done this before?’ a friendly voice asked. Karen looked up from her book. Someone else had come in, presumably while her mind
had been miles away, thinking about the upcoming meeting. She saw an elegant, blond girl sitting opposite her, looking very calm,
composed and confident. Karen immediately felt out of her depth, and her self-doubts began to multiply,
‘Er no, not exactly,’ she muttered, not particularly eager to get involved in a conversation. ‘Well, either you have or you haven't’
the girl's eyes opened wide, questioning. They were clear blue, full of confidence. ’
‘I've done a lot of waitressing, but not on a cruise liner before.’ Somehow, putting it into words made Karen feel a whole lot worse.
What had seemed a fantastic idea, an exotic way of spending the summer while earning a good wage, was now becoming an all too
possible reality.
‘Ah ...' the girl replied knowingly. ‘It's a whole different ball game, waitressing on a ship.’
‘You've done a lot of it then?‘ Karen asked, her voice shaking slightly.
‘This will be my fifth year,‘ the girl announced airily. ‘It’s really hard work, you know. Getting twelve people on two tables through
a four course meal every lunch and evening. You have to be able to balance all those dishes on top of each other, without spilling
anything! Remember, the boat's always moving up and down! Then, of course, you have to serve everything properly. using silver
service.'
‘Silver service?‘ echoed Karen faintly. Her heart was rapidly sinking.
‘Yes. You can do that, can't you?‘
Could she? Karen had no idea what the other girl was talking about.
‘it's where you serve the vegetables with a fork and spoon in one hand. while holding the bowl in the other. Quite an art form,‘ she
explained with a sly smile, as if she wanted to say Karen would never be able to do so. With luck, Karen would soon be out the door!
Karen's tongue wouldn't move. She sat quite still, waiting for more revelations.
‘And I presume you've got a strong stomach, because the seas can get quite heavy around the Mediterranean.’
Karen's stomach certainly wasn't feeling that strong now.
‘And remember, once you've left port, that's it for fourteen days. You can't just wake up one morning, and decide that it's not the job
for you. You're at sea, that‘s it.’ The girl glanced quickly at Karen's face to see what effect the words were having on her. But the room
was empty. Karen's feet were doing the talking.
